Thanksgiving is always the 4th Thursday of November. But that can be all over the place in terms of the actual date of November. In this chaotic and vaguely apocalyptic year of our Lord 2024, it is on the twenty-freaking-eighth. By the time we finish ungodly amounts of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and the green bean casserole thing, Christmas will be less than a month away. I can’t be the only one having a mild, maybe more than mild panic attack about this situation. Somehow, Thanksgiving is always the marker for Christmas for me. Pre-Thanksgiving is still chill fall vibes. I might even still have Halloween things up from a combination of not bothering to take them down and my deep love for my Lewis-o-Lantern. Post-Thanksgiving is an explosion of red, green, and chaos.
I have three gifts sitting in my house right now. I didn’t make a Christmas card. (And might have to skip that one this year since the only pics I have of my family are, let’s just say, not spectacular) I have bought one roll of wrapping paper and I got that from the Warhammer store. It has little green goblins on it. Hilarious, but probably not everyone’s style. I don’t know about you guys, but I probably could have accomplished a few more things before the official season changeover. Every single thing my kids want is at least four million dollars and I, unfortunately, am not in possession of such quantities of cash. I’m wondering if there’s a market to sell feet pics of the animals. Only Toe Beans.
This week we still have to get through Thanksgiving. Thank the sweet Lord I’m not hosting this year, (Thanks to the Moms for that one!) but if you are I wish you the best of luck. It is a high pressure meal to make. Rest assured that most of us don’t have a very discerning palate and wouldn’t know if you made a mistake, anyway. Plus, turkey doesn’t really taste like anything. But spices. Because you add those. Holiday stress is a killer. Don’t forget to take care of yourselves. I’ll see you all panic shopping when it really hits us we only have 24 days until Christmas on Friday.
