Sadie Hartmann has blessed the horror fans among us with a compilation of horror novels from every subgenre to satisfy even the most ardent fans. Guys, I admit I was cocky. I picked this up for myself early this year, sure I’d have read perhaps 60 maybe 70 percent of these. My hubris was astounding. I was reading Stephen King on the elementary school playground. (And I wonder why people were concerned about my wellbeing. And my ghastly paleness.) Surely, I thought like a naïve but egomaniacal jagoff (in the local vernacular) I was one of the cultured ones. Not so much.
The time has come to correct this GREVIOUS error. I’m always looking for something new and scary. And as far as I’m concerned, every season is spooky season so what better time to start. It’s about to get real in here, bitches! The book is separated* by sub-sub genre. ie, Paranormal – Haunted Houses or Paranormal – Ghosts. I’ll be reading through each category and picking my favorite. If you’d like to join in, I’d love to have everyone’s thoughts! At the end of each over arching section, ie Paranormal, Sadie highlights an author known for the genre. To complete 101 books, you’ll need to read one of those books as well.
I’ll reread any I’ve already read to provide a fresh review. There aren’t any in here that I didn’t enjoy. Hartmann knows what she is talking about and I’m going to trust that all of her recommendations are going to be worth the time.

I’m diving into the Paranormal – Haunted Houses section with The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wending. Yes, yes, I know it’s book 2 in 101 Books to Read Before You’re Murdered. I couldn’t get the first one fast enough. I WILL GET TO IT. According to Hartmann, I will love the characters and be aggressively distressed by everything that happens to them in the book. Unbearably distressed. And bonus, it’s set in my home state. 6Awesome, bring it on Chuck!
