I’m not a big decorator. I have anxiety of the general variety and OCD. Clutter, even the intentional and beautiful kind, gives me the anxiety itches. My table has one candle and a set a very basic salt and pepper shakers on it. I have a set of interchangeable seasonal prints that go on the wall and the world’s greatest gnome that changes clothes seasonally. His name is Gnomeo. I’m not very creative with names. My bff was terrified my first child would be named baby.
There’s an exception, though. I LOVE Halloween. It’s such a chill, spooky holiday. You don’t have to go to a bunch of parties. (I’ve got that social anxiety too.) You don’t need to buy 500 gifts. And best of all, you get to watch a bunch of new, sometimes scary movies.

I love putting up my Lewis-O-Lantern so much that he goes up the moment I see a leaf fall and always overstays. I’ve already been looking at him, so lonely in his box, wondering how much my neighbors would hate if he started shouting his pithy Halloween phrases in July. And also maybe not caring.

So, imagine my joy when my husband turned up from a shopping trip with fresh Halloween decorations. Including a TOTE BAG reading Hot Ghoul Summer. **Small aside about tote bags. I love them. I have tote bags full of tote bags. We have regularly argued about my need to collect and never get rid of tote bags I will never use. So this was extra sweet.** And a flamingo figurine wearing a witch hat.
Summerween is a thing? I can extend my Halloween celebrations into the SUMMER!? This is game changing. Sure, I’ve been arguing skeletons are an all the time decoration because we have skeletons year round, but I haven’t had a lot of success with that. With the ghosts in bathing suits and carved watermelons, it’s hard to deny they belong in the summer.
Step aside Christmas, there’s a new holiday taking up 6 months of the year. I guess it’s time to drag Lewis out of the garage and slap an inner tube around him.
Happy Summerween!
